The MXL switches are in Fabric A, and every external ethernet port is a LAG. The M6348s are in Fabric B with the connections to MXLs in LAG. In fact, every connection into and out of this system will be a LAG.

You might already have sorted this, but I found for the CMC to launch the switch GUI the IP set in the CMC had to be in the same subnet/ range as the CMC management address. We use the management ports as a VLT backup link in its own range so cannot manage from the CMC.

I suggest having a look through the release notes. The config guides can guide you through the stacking. The M6348 defaults to RSTP. You can use this KB article to set the MXL to RSTP: http://dell.to/288ANqc

Thanks a lot Daniel. This system is likely going to be assembled by an OEM partner, and I want to write the configs. Problem is I don't already have the PowerConnect switches from which to pull a config to edit.

Hello, I am trying to add a 6224f to a stack that was running with 3 other switches. Switch 1 was a 6224F, Switch 2 was a 6248p, Switch 3 was a 6248. I added the new 6224f and set it up as stack member 2. All switches are running the latest firmware and boot code.

Thank you very much for the reply. I will see what information CCM can provide and if we can have a custom SNMP agent for the Ubuntu OS. Cheers Arch

Alright, I know this is a basic question and I've done a bunch of looking around and hours worth of trying different configurations with this 6248. Here's what I'm faced with:

What type of devices are on the other end of these connections? If you move the connection to the other 6224f, does the interface come up? Does it exhibit the same behavior when not stacked?

There is also this show command that may lend some insight to the current status of those ports. console#show fiber-ports optical-transceiver

On the 6200 series switches, you can think of the "Management VLAN" as an OOB interface. It is not required that you manage the switch through this VLAN. You can manage the switch by accessing any of the IP addresses you have assigned to a VLAN.

Thanks for your reply, Daniel. So you're saying that unless my cable modem gateway is able to configure static routes, that this basically won't work, correct?

I removed the switch from the stack, I think is is most likely defective and out of warranty. I formatted and restored the file system, reinstalled the firmware, updated boot code again and it didn't help. The SFPs still only worked when looped on the switch.

Correct, you need a device that will have instructions on how to direct the returning traffic. There are open source software based options that you might look into. this list has several free ones. http://bit.ly/1suhgzT

Sounds like you have troubleshot it pretty well. I would still double check and make sure the connection you are trying to make with to this switch, works on the others in the stack. You can compare the output from the show command to see if there are any differences.

The connection that I was trying to make is good. I had a bunch of LAGs that were running on one switch that I was trying to split between two of them. They were both functional on the first switch but the port would not come up at all when I tried to move it to the problematic 6224f.

Let's assume for a moment that such a device was placed at 192.168.1.30 (so, on VLAN 1) as a virtual machine and that the 6248's interface at 192.168.1.25 still existed. Here are questions and assumptions I would ask to validate:

1. This really depends on which product you are using. For instance, while configuring pfSense, the WAN interface is statically established, then the LAN interfaces. The default config will know to forward traffic out the WAN interface. Most routers/firewalls will have this dedicated WAN interface.

The initial configs on these switches are pretty much blank. The initial config documents guide you through the initial configuration phase, and can be a good source for piecing together an initial config that works for you.

I am putting the 6248 into the picture in preparation for network virtualization, and to mimic a customer's datacenter network infrastructure.
